Personal stories: Scott's volunteering
The recent case I worked on as a new volunteer has been incredibly rewarding and uplifting. I have been able to encourage the young man I’ve been working with to expand his interests and to begin reassessing his options.
Liam* was articulate and personable, which was evident from the start, but he didn’t have much support or many hobbies.
He came from what could be described as dysfunctional environment – he had a difficult relationship with his parents, had lacked a social role model and had developed unhealthy and obsessive behaviours that contributed to his offending behaviour.
As my work with Liam progressed, it was very pleasing to hear from his Probation Officer of the positive improvements to Liam’s openness and his appreciation of simply having someone he could talk to when he needed it.
